Enamory therapists use evidence-based couple therapy approaches that have been shown in research studies to help the majority of couples improve their relationships and stay together. We begin with an assessment phase, usually 4 sessions, that allows your therapist to build a detailed understanding of what's keeping you and your partner stuck. Typically, the assessment phase involves meeting with the couple together as well as meeting with each partner one-on-one for one session each.

At the end of the assessment phase, your therapist will provide you with feedback in the form of a case formulation, which is a kind of roadmap for treatment. Your therapist will work with you to make sure your case formulation makes sense to you and feels accurate. Your therapist will then collaborate with you to decide together on a treatment plan, which may include traditional couple therapy, ketamine-assisted couple therapy, and/or oxytocin-enhanced couple therapy. Alternatively, your therapist may determine that couple therapy is not the right fit and may provide you with alternative referrals.

The treatment phase after the assessment phase involves working together to shift the patterns keeping you stuck, and building your capacity to work toward your goals. Usually, this includes things like improving communication and conflict management, learning about your and your partner's emotions, practicing being vulnerable together, and resolving longstanding issues or relationship hurts. Some sessions will focus on present-day issues, while others may focus on things from the past. Although your therapist will be your guide to keep your treatment on track, you must show up to each couple therapy session as an active participant in order for it to benefit you and your relationship.

Once you start the treatment phase of couple therapy, you will usually meet with your couple therapist once per week for a 60 or 90 minute session. Most couples work with us for about 6 to 12 months, but there is a wide range and there are many factors that go into determining how long you will be in couple therapy, including how much you and your partner are able to collaborate and work together outside of session. Therapy ends once you feel that you've met your relationship goals and are ready to tackle the challenges of relationship life without your therapist.

If you're thinking about starting couple therapy with your partner, that probably means you should. You will have a much better chance of a positive outcome if you address relationship issues sooner, rather than waiting until they've been festering for years.

You'll know that you are ready for couple therapy when you and your partner are both willing to prioritize attending together every week, to take responsibility for understanding and changing your own behavior, and to consider alternative perspectives and ways of understanding your relationship problems.

Our therapists each set their own rates based on their training and expertise, currently ranging from $200/hour to $350/hour. We also have a limited number of sliding scale spots available for clients experiencing financial stress that makes those fees unmanageable.

Ketamine therapy sessions generally last about 3 hours and are priced as a package if your therapist will be present in-person or over telehealth. Please discuss the cost of the ketamine dosing sessions with your therapist. There is no charge for a self-guided ketamine dosing session.

When evaluating the cost of therapy, it's important to also consider the effectiveness of the therapy. Most of our clients see us for therapy for about 6 months. The goal of effective, evidence-based therapy is for it to end once you reach your goals. In other words, our goal is for you to not need us any more! Think of therapy as an investment in the future of your relationship, both financially and in terms of your time and effort.

No, Enamory therapists are not in-network providers with any insurance company. Unfortunately, most insurance plans do not provide adequate coverage for couple therapy, ketamine-assisted therapy, or our other specialty areas. Instead, we can provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company, and if your plan includes out-of-network provider coverage, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement of sessions. Please be aware that we don't bill or work with insurance companies directly and we cannot promise that they will provide reimbursement for our services.

Ketamine-assisted couple therapy involves augmenting a typical course of couple therapy with ketamine sessions that you and your partner will complete together about once per month. Each ketamine-assisted couple therapy treatment plan is customized and unique to you, so your therapist will work with you to determine whether ketamine therapy is the right fit for you, whether you will complete dosing sessions together and whether your therapist will be present, how often you will complete the ketamine sessions, and more.

To get started, your therapist will complete an assessment (usually 4 sessions), and will then refer you to a medical doctor or other licensed medical provider for a medical evaluation and ketamine prescription. It's up to you and the prescribing medical provider to obtain your ketamine prescription. Then, you will use your ketamine prescription together with your partner as instructed by your couple therapist.

Usually, couples will be prescribed sublingual (SL) ketamine that you take by holding a lozenge or tablet underneath your tongue without swallowing for 10-20 minutes. With the approval of the prescriber, SL ketamine may be used without the prescriber present, either in clinic with your therapist or at home on your own. Sometimes, couples will prefer to receive ketamine administered via intravenous infusion (IV), intramuscular injection (IM), or nasal spray (NS). For IV, IM, and NS administrations, you must be in the office of the prescribing medical provider. Enamory works with prescribers who offer all of these options, including some group dosing options, so talk with your therapist about what the best option is for you.

The benefits of completing ketamine therapy as part of your couple therapy include being able to access more openness, flexibility, connection, and empathy that will make the rest of your couple therapy more effective. 

Enamory bills for ketamine-assisted couple therapy on an hourly basis the same way we bill for other therapy services, with the exception of the longer ketamine dosing sessions, which are priced as a package. Talk with your therapist about the cost of a ketamine dosing session. Clients are required to obtain a legal ketamine prescription from a licensed medical provider, which usually costs around $500 for both the medical evaluation and initial prescription. While Enamory will refer you to a ketamine prescriber, we are not responsible for your medical care or prescription and you will pay the prescribing doctor or practice directly.
